Electrical Panel Changes

There are some substandard electrical panels that were installed in the sixties and seventies that are no longer being accepted by most insurance companies. Federal Pacific, Stab-lok and Zinsco/Sylvania panels were installed is South Florida during the building boom. They were low cost panels and many builders used them for their residential and condominium projects.

The FPE company lost their United Laboratory (UL) listing when there circuit breakers failed the testing and would not trip under excessive loads. The Zinsco/Sylvania panels used an aluminum flat buss bar which has a tendency to corrode where the circuit breaker attaches. Many insurance companies are now requiring homeowners and business owners to replace these electrical panels with the approved types.
